Every season, top sports magazines, sports shows, and prognosticators put out whom they think is the best at their respective positions. Everyone has his or her own opinions on this topic, as it’s simply a matter of taste. However, these are the best field general’s in the country for the upcoming ‘06 college pigskin campaign according to us.

1) Drew Stanton - Michigan State Spartans
This kid has had a fabulous go of it in his two years as a starter in East Lansing. He threw for 3077 yards a season ago, and had a solid TD/INT ratio of 22-12. Overall, he’s passed for 4717 yards and completed 66% of his passes in 18 careers starts. He’s a dual threat in the pocket since he can beat you with his arm and his legs. He’s rushed for a total of 1290 yards in his career (520 last year), and has menaced each and every defensive unit he’s faced when healthy. That’s been the key though, his health. He always seems to pick up a nagging injury that limits his play down the stretch. He has an awfully explosive set of skilled players surrounding him again this year, and should be the ringleader of one of the most explosive offensive units in the country.

2) Brady Quinn - Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Quinn has shown a steady progression of improvement with every passing year he’s lead the Irish. None more so than last season where his completion percentage rose from 54% to 65% in HC Charlie Weiss pro-style attack. He passed for 3919 yards last season with an unreal TD/INT ratio of 32-7. He’s a big specimen (6-4 230) that excels when given the time in the pocket. He demolished 10 Irish records a season ago, and looks to add on to the 8300+ yards he’s thrown for in his collegiate career this season. He’s a surefire first round pick in next years NFL draft, and will be in the running for the Heisman the entire 2006 season. With an exceptional offense returning for the Irish this season and a years worth of Weis’ systems installed in their memories, look for Quinn and the Irish to have a banner season.

3) Brian Brohm - Louisville Cardinals
This one might surprise some of the novice football fans out there, but die-hard college football freaks know this good has the goods. Last years Big East Offensive Player of the Year threw for 2883 yards and had a spectacular TD/INT ratio of 19-5, while completing just a shade under 70% of his passes. Unfortunately, he was hurt in their second to last game of the year against Syracuse, and had to sit out their season finale as well as their bowl game vs. VTECH. He’s now fully recovered from his ACL injury, and should no doubt pick right back up where he left off. The Cardinals return an explosive offense that might just be the best the Big East has to offer; especially with him leading it.

4) Colt Brennan - Hawaii Warriors
Colt who? Colt Brennan you say! Who the heck is that? Well sit back and listen so I can tell you. Colt is the young buck who shattered a couple of Timmy Chang and Nick Rolovichs records in just his first year of running HC June Jones’ attack on the island. He was the only walk-on starting QB in the country last year after transferring from Colorado the year before. He threw for an NCAA leading 4301 yards and had a TD/INT ratio of 35-13, while completing 68% of his passes. Those numbers are simply fantastic, and he’s already hot on Timmy Chang’s tail who finished his career at Hawaii as college football’s all time career-passing leader. The Warriors return one heck of an offense in ‘06, so look for Colt to most likely better his numbers and lead the way as they look to reclaim the WAC.

5) Drew Tate - Iowa Hawkeyes
Tate is coming off a 2005 season that saw him throw for 2828 yards with a TD/INT ratio of 22-7, while completing 62% of his passes. He led the Hawkeyes to their fifth straight winning season, and outdid his passing numbers from 2004 and cut his INT’s in half. However, he didn’t garner the media attention like he did a season ago (1st Team Big 10 ‘04); strange but true. Now in his third season of running the Iowa offense, and with a solid running attack and one of the best O-Line’s in the country protecting him, I’m looking for him to have the best statistical season of all the Big 10 field generals. Their schedule is set up very nice, and an unblemished mark or one loss season would certainly have Mr. Tate in the running for the Heisman Trophy.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a sport that brings together the world’s most talented Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) athletes. The UFC was created in 1993 as a made for pay-per-view spectacle to garner worldwide attention.

There never was a plan to proceed beyond one or two shows.
