Sportingbet Ex-Chairman Peter Dicks

Peter Dicks is released today after his 2nd trial in New York City after being held for a warrant issued by the state of Luisiana.  Louisiana’s warrant remains in effect, Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Affronti told Justice Gene Lopez, who was reviewing the extradition matter. Lopez dismissed the warrant and said Dicks’s bail money should be returned to him. Louisiana authorities want him extradited to the state to face charges related to Internet gambling.
Louisiana State Police spokesman Dwight Robinette did not immediately return a voicemail message seeking comment on Dicks’ release.

WGC - American Express Championship! Tiger alone on Top

nec.pngThis week a week after the Ryder Cup that was played in Ireland, the tour finds itself in Chandler’s Cross, England playing the WGC - American Express Championship at The Grove Golf Club. After last weeks crushing defeat of the US and Tiger the week before getting beat in the first round of the European Tour’s HSBC World Match Play Championship. Well a lot of people might have started to think that Tiger was starting to get a little worn out from all the playing and flying back and forth. Well Tiger had other plans for us this morning and came out will all guns blazing to shoot an 63, eight under par which was good enough to take a one shot lead after the first round. His round started on hole one and he managed to throw in six birdies on the front nine to shoot 29. Then on the back nine things cooled down a little until he birdied hole 15, his only hick up came at the 17 when he blew his second shot over the green and made bogey from 117 yards out. This obviously set of some anger in Tiger and this was released on the 18th tee shot, he reached the par 5 in two and then as he always does rolled in the eagle putt, to take the lead.

Tomorrow will be round two and I would put money on that it will be another day with low scores, this is due to the soft conditions and the good condition of the greens. When a tour player is allowed to throw darts one can count on them shooting lights out. My question is, is Tiger simply too good or does he want to prove to everyone that he is the most dominant player that has ever walked this planet. We already know that he is, but he has been on fire lately and that is probably why, we were all disapointed to see him not do better in the Match Play tournament, his play was by any means not shabby at the Ryder Cup, but it was over shadowed due to the strong play of Europe. If I was to bet, then I would take Tiger in any match up the next three days, and I would say that one would walk away with some heavier pockets.

NFL - Did superstar Owens try to take his own Life?

cowboys.bmp                                       nfl.bmp                                    t-owens.bmp

So the question on the minds of sport writers and football fans across the world, has to be did Terrel Owens really try to take him own life. Nobody is really sure about what happened and maybe we will never know, the only person that really knows what happened is Mr. Owens himself. He says that he is fit and ready to play on Sunday when his team the Dallas Cowboys take on the Titans of Tennessee.

Owens denies a police report that he attempted suicide, saying he became groggy after mixing painkillers with supplements. Owens says that the confusion likely steamed from an empty bottle of pain medication that was found by his publicist, she was the person that called 911. Mr. Owens claims that the remainder of the pills where in a drawer and that he never consumed them all.

It was as if Owens wanted to slap everyone that was not having faith in his statement, by going from the hospital to catching passes from quarterback Drew Bledsoe. Then later on he appeared in a news conference at team headquarters a few hours after leaving the hospital wearing his workout gear and no bandage on his broken right hand. The star receiver smiled and seemed more amused than frustrated at the latest hickups concerning him.

Could this all have been a publicity stunt to gain the attention from the media or his his life slipping out of control?

New Search Services

A new generation of search services goes beyond simple personalization, and lets you customize both your search topics and how results are presented.

Search engines have been quick to pick up on the fact that users want to personalize the information they are getting—Google offers personalized searching for example, and several other search engines will allow a certain level of user intervention with search results.

Now, however, a number of new services are providing ability to create your own search engine, and to search your way. Not literally of course—unless you have millions of dollars available it’s unlikely that you’re going to start your own search engine from scratch, but if you have a few minutes to spare you can do the next best thing, which is to piggyback on the work of others and create a search resource that works the way that you want it to.

Several services are now available, and today and tomorrow we’ll take a look at them. Specifically we have Rollyo, the Yahoo Search Builder, PSS! and Eurekster’s Swicki. Although they all claim to do the same job—create a search function for users, they all do it rather differently.

Poker Bluffing

pokerimage5.jpg

Bluffing - Limit Hold’em

A bluff is a very effective play and a winning player needs to know how to do it well, but not as often as you might think.

When you bluff, you raise the pot with nothing or close to nothing in an attempt to make others think you’re strong, inducing them to fold and give you the pot without having to show your cards. A few words to the wise on bluffing: In limit hold’em you will rarely bluff, not nearly as often as you would in no-limit hold’em because it’s too hard to make people fold for one bet. Pay attention to the size of the pot, people are more likely to call you if the pot is large and fold if the pot is small. You usually want to be head’s-up when you bluff and never try to bluff more than two opponents out of a pot.

The most important thing for you to know when bluffing is to know your opponent (a recurring theme). Watch them throughout the game and you’ll know when they’re on the come and then you can possibly bluff them out of the pot. Also, if you are in a pot with a bad player, don’t bluff. They will usually call anyway and you will have to show down the best hand to win. As you play more poker you’ll notice the correct situations to bluff in will find you more as you recognize them. Develop your observation skills and you will able to blend all the information given to you by opponents, pot size and game texture to decide when to bluff. Integrate bluffing into your game and you can skillfully pick up pots when you’re not dealt the winning hand.

PGA Report

woodstig.gif
It’s time for Tiger Woods to prove his doubters wrong.
Red-hot Ryders

Not that many people would want to bet against Woods right now, not after he put together five consecutive PGA Tour victories in a row. But for some reason, the Ryder Cup hasn’t been kind to Woods in the past. Tiger is just 7-11-2 lifetime at this international match-play tourney.

Time for a change. Woods is the favorite at +200 to lead all Americans in scoring when the 2006 Ryder Cup tees off at The K Club in County Kildare, Ireland. The last time we saw Woods in Cup action two years ago, he was at the crossroads of his career. Tiger had a new swing coach, a new driver and, for some reason, rival Phil Mickelson as a partner. The U.S. went on to suffer its worst-ever defeat at this competition.

Where Woods was a reluctant warrior two years ago, he is now reportedly eager to put the past behind him and lead America to victory. The odds, though, are not in his favor this time. Europe is priced at even money to hoist the Ryder Cup for the fifth time in six tries (and eight of the past 11). Team USA is a shade behind at +110; a draw result, which has only happened twice in the event’s 79-year history, is priced at +850. Europe retains the Cup in the case of a tie.

Woods is paired with Jim Furyk this time around. Furyk is +400 to lead the American side in points, and he proved to be a compatible partner for Woods when they helped the U.S. win the 2005 President’s Cup. Both players lobbied current U.S. captain Tom Lehman to reunite the tandem in Ireland. But, like Woods, Furyk has a checkered past in Ryder Cup action, going 1-9-1 in team matches.

The European team lacks the star power of the Americans, but it makes up for that in consistency and depth. Sergio Garcia leads the odds list for top Euro scorer at +600; right behind him at +650 are Luke Donald, Paddy Harrington, and Colin Montgomerie, who is playing in what is expected to be his last Ryder Cup. ‘Monty’ is 5-0-2 in singles action and always seems to raise his level of golf at this event. His lack of success at PGA Tour majors, though, overshadows his winning ways in Europe. The Scotsman should get one more Cup moment in the Irish sun.

Building a Traffic-worthy Website

Building a website that will be considered a ‘traffic worthy site’ is essential for your site’s success. A traffic worthy site is developed for more than just the human, however. It also needs to be developed for the search engines along with their spiders and crawlers. That is why a sound web design is crucial for driving traffic to your site. So, what is involved in building a traffic worthy site you ask?
First of all, you must perform a thorough research into what constitutes your company’s keywords.

A smart web developer will see what their site looks like to search engines. A Lynx viewer (text mode web browser) is great for this. This viewer also make one’s site friendly for the vision impaired who regularly search the net. Yes, there are millions doing this.Designing your website for your human visitors should be first priority. A balancing act between human and search engine visitors is a tricky one, but needs to be accomplished.

Practice good SEO, but not at the expense of your visitors’ viewing experience.

It’s also important to note that web browser standards are not yet fully integrated. For instance, a site that looks good in Window’s Internet Explorer may not look good in the Mozilla based Firefox or Netscape. Developers must be knowledgeable about cross browser design for their website’s success. Plus, with the multitude of hand held devices provide another issue. These hand held devices display information differently and developers must be conversant in W3C formatting. Google-backed Firefox is quickly eating up Window’s Internet Explorer browsing turf. Developers must keep abreast of these changes.

Never use a word processor to design your website. Word processing software is notorious for containing a variety of hidden messy codes which are not search engine friendly.

Search engine ‘bots’ are your most important visitors. You must accommodate and entice them. By properly designing your website, you will gain respect with them. This respect, in turn, increases both your targeted visitors and sales.

The subject of bringing traffic to your website is immense. This article touches upon only a few of the ways you can succeed in this area. You can only benefit by knowing how to build a traffic-driven website.

SEO. Everywhere we turn anymore it seems we hear about search engine optimization (SEO for short). SEO consists of keyword optimization. SEO also is utilized by both search engines automatically and humans manually. Each time a visitor types in their word of choice into the search engine (known as search utilization), sites pop up containing that word. See the importance of knowing your keywords?

It is estimated that more than 86% of all human visitors arrive at websites via search engines. Recent statistics have shown that Google is the top pick search engine. Can you see how search engine optimization is of utmost important for your site’s success?

A top ranking in the search engines can bring you highly targeted traffic. These particular visitors are essential for your success. You offer a certain product. Visitors are searching for that particular product and come across your site. You offer something they are seeking. Therefore, search engines are sending you pre-qualified customers.

Google indexed 8 billion pages. Google uses bots (also known as spiders and crawlers.) It’s important for marketers to know how spiders crawl around your web page and site.

Search engine crawlers are your best visitor. Giving the crawler unlimited ability to move around your website and page is essential for your search engine ranking.

Your website must be spider (search engine) friendly if you want any traffic from the search engines. The search engine spider does not read your website the way humans do. The spider reads HTML (web page source code). If your site does not contain it, or uses it poorly, the spider will give up.

Furthermore, spiders love text content. They do not care about JavaScript at all. Sites containing a multitude of images and no ALT tags may not be indexed properly for the spiders. The site may be appealing to the eye, but the bot spiders do not care. They will lose interest in your site. So, when designing your site, you must convince your web developer of incorporating some structural design that promotes search engine friendliness.

Nascar Report: No rest for the Chasers

Most of us working stiffs got to take Monday off for Labor Day. The teams on NASCAR’s Nextel Cup circuit didn’t have the same luxury.

There wasn’t much time for Kasey Kahne to savor his victory Sunday night at the Sony HD 500 in Fontana, Calif. His Evernham Racing team was one of several to take the red-eye Monday, en route to Saturday’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia. Given the time pressure and the relatively small ¾-mile track at Richmond, there is an increased likelihood of chaos as qualifying for the Chase for the Cup draws to a close.

Kahne’s victory at California Speedway pulled him to within 30 points of that last qualifying spot. He also leads all Cup drivers with five wins this season, and is near the top of the odds list this week at +900 to make it six. Jeff Burton (+2000) is currently in 10th place, but he’s not the only driver in danger of falling out of Chase position. The only two drivers who have clinched are Matt Kenseth (+900) and Jimmie Johnson (+1200).

Most of the other men in the Top 10 will be racing conservatively this Sunday, more concerned with avoiding a race-ending collision than taking the checkered flag. Those closer to Kahne in the standings will be more aggressive. Mark Martin (+2000) is only two points in front of Burton, while defending Cup champion Tony Stewart (+800) is another 13 points ahead of Martin. These four drivers are essentially fighting for three spots in the Chase.

Stewart earns co-favorite honors this week with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Each man has won three Cup races at Richmond. Stewart has been the more consistent of the two with four Top-7 results in his last five appearances. Earnhardt, however, won the May event at this track, the hotly contested Crown Royal 400.

Ironically, Little E’s established skills on superspeedways come into play at Richmond. Although the track is short, the turns are a manageable 14 degrees. Lap times approaching 110 mph are the norm - when cars aren’t smashing into one another. No wonder fans love Richmond so much.

Poker Tip Of the Day

folk.gif

Position is more important in Hold’em than any other form of poker. The later you are to act, the better. The value you gain from watching all your opponents act before you can greatly influence your decisions. Let’s say you hold suited connectors, 7-8 suited, and the player under the gun raises the pot pre-flop only to be re-raised by the player to his left. The next three players fold and now your eighth to act with your suited connectors. They sure don’t look as attractive as they did 30 seconds ago. In a regular nine-handed game the blinds, player under the gun and the fourth player to act are in early position, players 5-7 are in middle position and the eighth player and button are in late position. Hands you would fold in early position become hands you can raise with in late position.

The power of position is only compounded by the fact that there are four betting rounds in hold’em. In last position you get the advantage of information exposed by your opponent’s actions on every round of betting. Drawing hands become profitable if enough players have limped in, you can give yourself a free card, you can raise with out the fear of being check-raised. When in doubt about a starting hand make sure you factor in all the advantages of late position and the disadvantages of early position into your decision.
